Human trafficking for criminal exploitation is on the rise: vulnerable young people are falling victim to organised crime

Human trafficking for the purpose of criminal exploitation is on the rise in Europe. Children and young people are particularly at risk. This is the warning issued by the Council of Europe’s Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) in its most recent report. According to the experts, urgent action by governments is needed to protect victims from criminal networks that exploit their vulnerable position. At the same time, care must be taken to ensure that these victims are not treated as criminals themselves.
